Pip, pip. Cheerio. History Has Got to Go!
The United Kingdom is taking an interesting turn in their teaching of history in elementary and primary school. From the Times (h/t Scottish Right):
Teachers are dropping controversial subjects such as the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons because they do not want to cause offence to children from certain races or religions, a report claims.
A lack of factual knowledge among some teachers, particularly in primary schools, is also leading to “shallow†lessons on emotive and difficult subjects, according to the study by the Historical Association.
Why should America care? These things have a way of making it across the water.Â
The full report is quite an interesting read. It speaks to how controversial subjects can be taught, what educators need to do, and the benefits of teaching controversial subjects. It goes a bit far into diversity as a virtue for me, personally, but I can live with it in totality.
